The Douglas County School District is conducting a search for an Executive Director of Special Education that displays high integrity, dynamic leadership, and community engagement.
The ideal individual will be to handle these responsibilities:

Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Directors, building level administrators, and other staff for students with specialized learning needs in the areas of professional development, programming, and service delivery to increase achievement and access for students with disabilities.

Responsible for the implementation and district compliance with federal and state regulations regarding IDEA.

Problem solve with individual providers, teams, and building level administrators to ensure quality programming for students with disabilities in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines. Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new programs and/or modifications to existing programs to meet the unique learning needs of students, including the promotion of least restrictive placement options whenever possible. Collaborate with Student Support Services directors, specialists and coordinators to assure consistent provision of services district-wide. Allocate resources based on programming needs.

Facilitate communication with various departments, including but not limited to: Early Childhood Education, Advanced Academics, English Language Development, Safety & Security, Health/Prevention/Intervention, Learning Services, Human Resources, Legal and Business Services as well as with the community and the superintendent. Act as a resource to district administrators.

Supervise/support directors, coordinators, specialists, and office staff.

Provide strategic leadership, assistance and support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of department goals, in alignment with district priorities and the strategic plan.

Manage funding sources and district budgets and non-discretionary allocations to support with the evaluation of and meet the required needs of students with disabilities.

Ensure the preparation, accuracy, and submission of all reports required for state an federal government reporting.

Allocate and monitor yearly FTE certified and classified allocations to ensure compliance and equity of resources.

Integrate general education and special education, including curriculum, instructional strategies, and individualized instruction in support of all children, including those with disabilities.

Evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of special education programs, facilities, services and monitoring systems, and use the evaluation data to improve programs and services for all children, including those with disabilities.

Provide leadership and vision in the facilitation of partnerships; and engage parents, families, and communities in the implementation of special education programs and delivery of special education services.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Master’s Degree in Special Education

Administrator License-Director of Special Education (or in process)
Anticipated compensation range: $117,000-$175,000 base salary + benefits
